DIRECTOR OF MANUFACTURING

Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Manufacturing will be responsible for overseeing the manufacturing department of a 24/6 operation including injection molding and assembly. This individual will be responsible for the organization, planning, delivery, and execution of the Manufacturing Operations.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for the organization, planning, delivery, and profitability of the manufacturing operations while maintaining customer satisfaction
  • Work closely with the Quality, Tooling, Engineering, and Customer Service departments to develop strong working relationships that foster teamwork, engagement, commitment, and accountability to generate results
  • Create a culture and environment of continuous change and improvement by incorporating LEAN strategies throughout the manufacturing organization
  • Develop short term and long-term business needs assessments regarding capital requirements, staffing and supervision
  • Identify and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework
  • Recommend short and long-term strategies for evolution of manufacturing capacity, technology and efficiency
  • Responsible for introducing and managing improved manufacturing methods (i.e., Lean, Kan Ban, 6-Sigma, TQM, Robotics, etc.)
  • Increase manufacturing efficiencies and overall product and process quality
  • Responsible for supervisory, technical and operator development
  • Operational Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage all manufacturing operations; molding, finishing, shipping/receiving, and production planning
  • Schedules manufacturing operations based on input from production planning
  • Monitors backlog and modifies staffing to meet short- and long-term production requirements
  • Is an integral member of material review board and responsible for implementing corrective actions within the department
  • Analyzes job performance, identifies problems, initiates corrective actions
  • Develop proficiency with PTA Business Management System
  • Operating & Capital Budget: In conjunction with Accounting Department, develops annual operating budget, builds staffing model to support forecasted sales and reviews historical performance to develop new budgets
  • Based on S&OP, Sales Forecast & Age/Condition of equipment, and identification of new technologies develops capital budget
  • Develops cost justifications for capital expenditures
  • Personnel: Writes, conducts and / or assists in reviewing performance appraisals, resolves personnel problems in partnership with Human Resources, authorizes Paid Time Off and identifies needs and arranges training for departmental personnel

  • Requirements:

  • BS degree in relevant field
  • 10+ years of experience, with a demonstrated achievement in Production, Materials, Manufacturing Operations and Processing

    QUALITY INSPECTOR - SECOND SHIFT

    Essential Duties and Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to read and understand complex blueprints - an understanding of geometric tolerancing (ANSI Y14.5), a plus
  • Provide support for First Article Inspections and Revision verifications
  • Verify the cosmetic quality of production parts, both in the Molding Department and the Finishing Department
  • Verify the conformance of dimensional requirements of production parts, both in the Molding Department and the Finishing Department

  • Must have a working knowledge of computer databases, spreadsheets and SPC software

    MOLDING PROCESS ENGINEER

    PTA Plastics, a leader in plastic injection molding, is currently seeking an experienced Process Engineer. This position will report directly to the Director of Manufacturing and will play a vital part to the injection molding team by creating, analyzing, improving, and adjusting molding processes to optimize cost, quality, and throughput of the molding operations. The Molding Process Engineer will be responsible for sampling, process development, and documentation of new injection molds as well as existing molds. In addition to mold validation and sampling, the Molding Process Engineer will be responsible for the creation of Process Flow Charts and PFMEA’s and assisting in the creation Control Plans.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sampling and process development of new and existing molds
  • Troubleshoot existing tooling -Collect and analyze data on individual processes to identify and improve process capability
  • Document and maintain mold process sheets for accuracy
  • Creation of Process Flow Charts and PFEMA’s
  • Assist QA with the creation of Control plans
  • Participate in new program quoting, mold design reviews, and formal print reviews
  • Provide input on mold and automation designs to ensure they correlate with process and equipment planning
  • Provided expertise and training on scientific injection molding practices
  • Write Design of Experiment (DOE) for new and modified processes
  • Provide technical support and leadership for cost reduction activities
  • Work with other departments to develop, strengthen, and maintain troubleshooting goals
  • Use Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (DMAC), and other statistical techniques to analyze process data to determine capabilities as well as potential improvements
  • Work with QA to establish and maintain consistent part quality and systems through SPC and DOE studies
  • Job Requirements:

  • B.S. in Engineering (Plastics, Chemical, or Mechanical are first preferences) and ten years’ experience in a technical role within the injection molding industry
  • RJG Master Molder Certification a plus
  • Strong knowledge of mold design
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability using reliable methods
  • General knowledge of statistics, including application of capability studies and working knowledge of Minitab Software
  • Commitment to Total Quality and Continuous Improvement practices
  • Six Sigma (Yellow, Green or Black Belt) and - or Lean Manufacturing certification desirable

    MOLD MAKER

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • All new tooling is produced on time and efficiently while maintaining high quality standards
  • A thorough acquired expertise in all the skills, techniques, and technologies required to perform the job
  • The responsibility for coordinating new tooling with other departments (CNC, Design, EDM)
  • Assume the responsibility for problem solving and directing all peers to come to a common goal
  • Works with the Tooling Supervisor and Mold Designer at the beginning of all programs to determine the overall game plan and methodology of the tool build when required
  • All molds are reviewed with the Tooling Supervisor upon thier completion to discuss how the job went, what worked well, and what could have been done differently the next time
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Tooling Supervisor is informed of all changes in approach, problems or mistakes in a timely manner
  • All information given to others on the job is documented in a cleary and easy-to-understand fashion
