Manufacturing Engineer - Automation

Location: Longmont, Colorado

$70,000 - $95,000 Annual Salary

General Purpose

The Manufacturing Engineer - Automation works to facilitate and enhance the logistics and efficiency of the manufacturing department through on-going analysis and recommending improvements in procedures and systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Manufacturing Engineer - Automation will be responsible for enhancing and supporting the fabrication, manufacturing and assembly process, including, but not limited to:

    · Develop manufacturing and assembly strategies for all products and processes.

    · Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Tooling, and Quality Assurance Departments to spec out the manufacturing and assembly process for current and future products.

    · Identify and solve production related problems, implement changes to manufacturing and assembly processes.

    · Coordinate introduction of new parts from Engineering into Manufacturing and Assembly.

    · Keep an eye on the manufacturing area for daily efficiencies, while keeping an eye on “the lookout” for future overall improvements.

    · Estimate costs, determine time standards and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.

    · Create and maintain job books for coordination of manufacturing operations.

    · Assist the toolroom in the design of tooling and fixturing for assembly and machining processes.

    · Identify of new opportunities for automation within the manufacturing process

Other Duties and Responsibilities

    • · Attend mold samplings and document the following items:

      · Work instructions (include pictures if needed) packaging, fixtures required, end of arm tooling for robots and document tool improvements needed to meet standards. Design and document workstation layout and product flow for both molding and finishing. Make appropriate entries in the business system.

      · Verify that newly released job books are correct and complete.

      · Establish capability of equipment and processes.

      · Coordinate/justify tool repairs to meet production schedules.

      · Lead daily MRB meeting and participate in disposition of rejected product.

      · Complete assigned Corrective and Preventive Action activities.

      · Attend tool design launch team meetings. Help implement new product develop team.

      · Responsible for Project Management of all “molding only” transfer tools to ensure an efficient transition from delivery to production ready status.

      · Attend engineering quote review meetings, as required.

      · Participate in continuous improvement team activities.

      · Work closely with sub-contractors to improve on time delivery and quality.

      · Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

    • · Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in manufacturing area or equivalent experience/education

      · Possess good verbal, written and interpersonal skills

      · Good Tooling background

      · Fixture and End of Arm tooling design

      · Understanding and hands-on experience with PLC’s, low voltage controls, three phase power distribution, vision systems. Electronic sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics and robotics

      · Design and application knowledge of machine safety standards

      · 3d Design software skills (Solidworks etc.)

      · Experience with actuators such as Stepper/Servo Motors, Pneumatic grippers, values and Cylinders

      · Experience with creating wiring diagrams

      · Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics

      · Experience with 3d printing and laser cutting/engraving technology is a plus

      · Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems

      · Experience with basic computer networking principles and hardware

      · Computer Skills: Must have working knowledge of word processing, Microsoft office, spreadsheet, internet, email, order processing, inventory, manufacturing software.

      · Lean manufacturing practices (Kanban, Poke-Yoke, JIT, Value Stream Mapping)

      · Machine specification and purchase order writing

      · Excellent teamwork and collaboration capabilities
